The 2011 Custer Ranch Rodeo, benefiting the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame, will be held Saturday, June 11 at the Custer Arena, two miles north of Custer, Montana.
Teams of top cowboys and cowgirls straight from the ranch will compete in team branding, wild cow milking, team doctoring, a pony express race, and stock saddle bronc riding. The winning team at Custer will advance to the NILE Championship Ranch Rodeo in Billings in October.
The Custer events are designed to reflect the real-life work that is done on ranches every day. Women are a big part of modern-day outfits, too, and so each team at the Custer Ranch Rodeo is required to have at least one woman as a member.
This year’s grand entry will start at 2 p.m. Two free events for kids – a boot race and a calf race – will take place before and after the bronc riding. There will be a ranch horse competition held at the arena in the morning before the ranch rodeo.
The Custer Ranch Rodeo is a fundraiser organized by Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame trustees, and sponsors make the event possible. Major sponsors for this year’s event include PV Ranch, Newman Rodeo, Northern Ag Network, Montana Cattlemen, Quarter Circle OZ Ranch, Montana Ranch Horse Association, Nate Wald Rawhide, Hansen Bit & Spur, Montana Stockgrowers, Ben Swanke Saddlery, BLS Horse Sales, H- Bar Hatworks, Farmer’s Union Oil, Montana ProRodeo Hall & Wall of Fame, Stockman Bank, Treasure Vet, Li’l Buckaroos Daycare, and Vet Barn.
Ranch rodeo teams are coming from Hysham, Terry, Hardin, Sand Springs, Pryor, Lodge Grass, Broadus, Molt, Roscoe, and Wyoming to compete.
Concessions will be provided by the Custer FFA. Gate fee is $5 for adults; kids under 12 attend for free.
A big visit will follow at the Junction City Saloon in Custer.
